Can’t wait to drive it just like this (minus paper meatball). Half unpainted and all dented up with barely any interior.

Kinja'd!!!

This is the latest mess, the wheel arches. I’ve got a donor panel but they’re pretty crispy. I think they’ll do for the time being. I just want to drive it!

Man I’m glad I found a pretty rust free 240Z! My friend’s dad has two of these, he goes to all the meetings in CA. He actually still has the one he got as a teenager.

We are! Both have Jaguars that semi-work, and small sports cars that need mountains of bodywork! I don’t have to do my engine though (probably just jinxed myself)

You should be glad, I wish this was rust free with a garbage engine but what can you do? I feel like a champ because I don’t think anyone else would have restored this car, it was too bad, it’s a parts car that I saved. They’re great cars! The first car I ever drove was my dad’s 1967.

The two main spots we did were the dog legs on both sides, plus reinforced the frame there since it was open and we did the hatch tailgate. The underside was wire brushed and coated, pretty lucky with the rest.

We’ve fixed the same stuff! Funny coincidence, although maybe we have that in common with all Datsun enthusiasts.

The drainage in that area is horrible on Datsuns, they trap moisture in a box and it rots inside. It often looks fine on the outside.

Totally, does yours have that vent on the cowl that lets in water? Mine does, and it drains onto the rocker pieces behind the fenders. Really stupid. I plugged the drain holes on the side (leaving the centre drain) and I’m planning to put a cover over the grate so it doesn’t let water in.

Yeah the cowl is open, they make a cowl panel that has no vents. When I make my whole front and fiberglass I might do that. We coated the stuff down lower for that. I just don’t know if it needs more air from there for anything? The dog legs just had no drainage and it made a perfect moisture box.

Yeah those stupid buddle shaped caps on the end of the rocker are horrible, mine were all toast, so I changed the design with just flat steel. Mine had the cowl vents for the heater, to grab fresh air from outside the car, but it’s a convertible so why do I need that?

Did you buy your hatch sill replacement piece? I need to do the same repair.

Yeah I got it a long time ago. My friends shop Petaluma Autoworks specializes in Datsuns and I had it for a while, we just got to that step last month. I’m sure you can google for it, I don’t remember having trouble finding it.

Mine looked ok except for one little bubble, my friends shop specializes in Datsuns and he said I’ll bet you a Benny it’s all mud in there. It was. Hence the pics I showed you. But the whole area is way better than new.
